How to not become resentful when he's busy all the time?

My live-in boyfriend of 3 years is in a band and there are weeks where he'll either be recording, rehearsing, or playing shows and this usually doesn't leave much time for me. When he isn't as busy we are great together and I feel like our relationships grows deeper, but when he is busy for weeks at a time I feel like I'm not top priority and a little resentful. I try to make myself as busy as possible so I'm not the one waiting around for him to get home, but then we're both extremely busy and we never see each other. We start to fight more, and I end up feeling less close to him - more like we're roommates. How can I handle this better? Is there anything I should suggest to him?
